We interact with HMI every day.Some of these interactions are obvious, such as touching the home screen of a smartphone or tablet, but the most common HMI environment is actually in industrial applications.

At this year's consumer electronics expo, we found that more and more appliances (such as refrigerators, vacuum cleaners, cooking stoves and range hoods) added HMI touch buttons and LED animation.Driven by this trend, designers make their products more intelligent and modern through user-friendly interactive functions.

Capacitive induction technology plays a very important role in achieving the above functions.When designing household appliances, the focus is on reliability, robustness and how to make products more attractive.With a capacitive touch user interface based on proximity sensing and LED animation reference design, designers can implement innovative features in household appliances, such as preset lighting modes, lower standby power consumption and moisture resistance.

The reference design based on CapTIvate ™ touch technology and advanced LED drive technology of the single MSP430FR2522 microcontroller (MCU), as shown in figure 1.Each of the six capacitive touch I/O channels has a specific purpose.In this particular design, three are used for rotary controls, two for buttons, and one for proximity sensing.Precise control is achieved even in the presence of splashing grease or water droplets.

Another advantage of MSP430 ™ CapTIvate MCU is it can enter low power mode, standby power consumption amounts to only help to meet the strict standards of energy efficiency product or extend battery life.The reference design provides proximity sensing to help the MCU quickly and easily recover from low-power mode to active mode, and the LED animation halo provides a good example of an attractive and innovative user interface for the next generation of devices.For example, when there are water droplets or grease on the stove surface, it is very important to have perfect control over the stove at any time.The standby power consumption of the CapTIvate MCU is very low, enabling the designer to meet the highest energy saving standards.

The LP5569 LED driver comes with built-in secure random access memory (SRAM) memory for user programming sequences and three programmable LED engines.Using the integrated engine, the preset mode is stored in program memory so that the LED driver can automatically run flashing or color mode, which makes the system resource utilization rate of the MCU low when running LED animation.

In the capacitive touch user interface based on proximity sensing and LED animation reference design, users can use three working modes:

· proximity sensing mode: when the sensor is close to the hand, the circuit board will wake up from the sleep mode and switch to the active mode indicated by the LED.

· autonomous mode: you can select pre-stored autonomous mode by pressing the button, such as breathing (monochrome or mixed color fading in and out), chasing (monochrome or mixed color), two color chasing (one color chasing based on another color) or any other color designer programming mode.

· control mode: the control mode demonstrates how users can control capacitive dialing with their fingers, while the application provides feedback through the LED ring.

With all these features, the next generation of refrigerators or stoves will be able to detect when a person is near the device and wake up automatically.Users can gently touch the surface with their fingers and control Settings such as temperature and lighting.Interactive panels use different colors and patterns to indicate various Settings, such as the temperature of the freezer or the power of the furnace.Many other applications can benefit from this reference design, such as elevators, thermostats, vacuum cleaners, robots, or any other product with an interactive user interface.
