Analog and digital bus switches are used in many industrial itruments and coumer devices to implement test interfaces, multiple peripheral and host selection functio, power and clock management, sample and hold circuits, test and debug interfaces, etc. Single Pole Single Throw (SPST), Single Pole Double Throw (SPDT), and Double Pole Double Throw (DPDT) are some of the switch configuratio widely used in the industry today. Figure 1 shows some of the common switch configuratio. NXP uses innovative circuit and package desig to offer an exteive portfolio of analog switches in single package with sub-ohmic on state resistance for different applicatio. In this paper, features and applicatio of NX and LVC analog switches and CBT digital bus switches are discussed in detail. Some of these switches have a select pin and some have enable pin, for digital control by a master in the design. Schmitt trigger action at select and enable control pi results in higher reliability in noisy conditio. Both normally closed and normally open switch configuratio are offered, which find their way in different applicatio. For example, normally closed switches are commonly used in audio system of TV. Normally, the audio is routed to speake at all times as long as the switch is closed but when the mute button is pressed, the switch is opened and audio is muted. On the other hand, normally open switches can be used to isolate multiple peripherals from the source and select the required one. For example, video signals can be routed from digital signal processor to external LCD of a notebook PC via docking station, by closing a normally open switch.

As long as the power supply or charger remai in the outlet, milliamps of current are flowing through them so that the electronics iide the power supply will have the right voltage ready when it’s needed. Since that voltage is available itantaneously as soon as the power supply is plugged in, this is wasted energy. A trickle of milliamps into a mobile phone charger doesn’t seem like much. But when it is multiplied by all the world’s charge – the average peon in many countries has four of them – billio of trickles combine into a torrent of wasted energy. The total amount of energy lost worldwide has been estimated as the equivalent of a 500 megawatt generating station based on 4 billion devices in service worldwide of which 25% (1 billion) are in service at any one time. If one‐half of a watt could be saved per device times 1 billion devices, it would amount of a savings of 500 MW. In the U.S., the ENERGY STAR® program, a joint effort of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy, has targeted the wasteful ways of power supplies (sometimes known as wall warts). Over the past five yea, it has established aggressive goals for increasing power supply efficiency. Figure 1 shows the efficiency requirements (vertical axis) of end‐use power supplies according to their capacity. The horizontal axis shows the allowable power coumption under no‐load conditio. A power supply must meet both criteria (i.e. fall into one of the EPS blocks) to earn an EnergyStar rating.
