A new 5A peak current gate driver, which can reduce system complexity and cost.

Power Integrations, a leader in IGBT and MOSFET driver technology for medium and high voltage inverter applications, today launched the latest member of the SCALE-iDriver™ IC family .

SID1102K —— Single-channel isolated IGBT and MOSFET gate driver in wide-body eSOP package. The new device has a peak drive current of 5 A, which can drive 300 A switching devices without using a driver stage; an external driver stage can be used to increase the gate current to a peak value of 60 A in a cost-effective manner. The device can provide N-channel drive for both the lower tube and upper tube driving MOSFET switches, thereby reducing system cost, reducing switching losses and increasing output power.

Reinforced insulation is provided by Power Integrations' innovative solid insulation FluxLink™ technology, so optocouplers are not required, which can further enhance reliability and stability. SCALE-iDriver technology can reduce the number of BOM materials, thereby simplifying design and manufacturing; a complete driver can be designed using one SID1102K IC and only eight peripheral components. The device provides system-level protection features, including undervoltage protection, rail-to-rail stable output voltage (single power supply), high common-mode transient immunity, and 9.4 mm creepage distance and electrical clearance.

Michael Hornkamp, Senior Marketing Director of Power Integrations Gate Driver Products, said: "The new SID1102K gate driver IC can provide designers with a scalable solution that is easy to implement, and integrates many important safety and protection in a compact and rugged package. Features to shorten the time to market."

Main applications include UPS, standard AC drives and variable frequency drives (VFD), photovoltaic/solar systems, commercial air conditioners, DC chargers and welding equipment.
